Well, they have a profession, R2 means they're Rangers. Pets don't have professions. Maybe that's why.

I think the only problem is that they are too busy with GW2, either that or they are all vacationing on the beach in Bermuda.

most likely the second option, seems like GW2 is in a preliminary fase of development...
about moss spiders: they are normal foes with a profession, like you cant charm a jotun, you cant charm a moss spider. The only difference is that they are not agressive until attacked.

Moss spiders are the same green as a pet, though, which makes me think at one time it was supposed to be a tameable pet. Don't forget though, one of the most 'elite' pets out there from the Underworld is the Black Widow which uses the same skin. Chances are aNet didn't want people to be able to tame a look-alike in the beginning of the game to the ultimate pet (which the widow was back when Proph was the only game).

No there hasn't, thos threads are just saying I wants it charmable, I'm asking if anet has given reasons for leaving it out. Go complain somewhere else.
As to the above posts the main thing that separates moss spiders from other foes is the fact that yeh it's the pet green, looks like it should be a pet and is automatically passive (most of the time)

rabbit and impressive warthog are a couple more that are the same... I seem to recall a conversation with Gaille Grey that alluded to them being discarded as pet/companions before GW came out, but left in the game since they were already there....

They probably left out Moss Spiders due to the Black Widows prestige status. Since they have very few differences (the BW is a different colour and slightly bigger) it would make the Black Widow pointless. As was said a couple of posts up, the Black Widow at the time was the elite pet of Guild Wars and having a smaller version charmable at the very start of the game would of affected that.

my question is this: are they the same approximated size as the black widow is even though they are level two?
because a texmod may be in order.

if they made the spiders tamable then the black widows lose prestige and that wouldn't do at all.

on the contrary, moss spiders only appear in pre-searing, it would only end up being a prestigious pre-searing character or proph only character pet, but that wouldn't kill any prestige found in the black widow, and while we're on the topic of "prestige" of the black widow, it has none really, lmao. It really doesn't, it lost all prestige the moment people started doing spider runs, and even so, i don't think that the moss spider would become more common than the black widow because of the simple fact that people have this "it's expensive, so that makes it better" mentality, and plus it's black so, just like anything that's dyable, black is expensive so that makes it even more uberleetzors. I hardly think anybody whose ignorant enough to think there's prestige left in the black widow will see a free pet as destroying it's "prestige".
and no i'm not knocking all you people with black widows, i have one too, i friggin solo trapped my way to it back the first month cantha was out, because that's when i decided to stop being lazy and make a ranger, and that meant something to me, because i solo'd it, so yes, it's a nice pet and all, but meh.

Agree with it all . If they do become charmable my pre-sear ranger will cap it and become a post sear very quickly. The only problem I can see is with programming the growth/evolution of it, but that's really a bad excuse to not add it.

Your missing the point. At the time Black Widow Spiders were a prestige pet - you know the time when Moss Spiders were made. They may not be considered prestige now, but back then they were hence Anet not wanting the Moss Spider to affect this.
Now cut to 3 years later - Changing a Spider that was made ages ago and is in pre searing from a monster into a charmable pet when there is already an identical one out that is considered "elite" by the Hall of Monuments, probably isnt on Anets list of things to do.

I feckin agree,MOAR KICKASS PETS, but anet need 'reasons' that hit them in the face otherwise they won't add them, and moss spiders have the best going for them. As to those who say 'we has black widow stfu', moss spiders use a different skin, can't get bought, would be able to evolved and there's more than one type of crab etc. so why the feck not.

I've wanted to charm those since I first did that quest. I might actually use a pet if I could command a swarm of bees to sting everything.
